The Thorson Family | Grapevine Family Photographer
Posted on April 28, 2009
This past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot the Thorson family. Heather was interested in a casual outside setting where she could bring their German Shephard.
After looking around and talking to some friends, Rockledge Park at Grapevine Lake was recommended to me. It was a windy day, but we were able to get some really nice family pictures for them.
Below are some of my favorites from their session:
First Infrared Photos
Posted on April 15, 2009
This past weekend I had the opportunity to go out and have some “me” time with my camera. I chose to do some experimenting with my infrared filter that I picked up this past Winter.
What is infrared photography?
In infrared photography, the film or image sensor used is sensitive to infrared light. The part of the spectrum used is referred to as near-infrared to distinguish it from far-infrared, which is the domain of thermal imaging. Wavelengths used for photography range from about 700 nm to about 900 nm. Usually an “infrared filter” is used; this lets infrared (IR) light pass through to the camera, but blocks all or most of the visible light spectrum (the filter thus looks black or deep red).
When these filters are used together with infrared-sensitive film or sensors, very interesting “in-camera effects” can be obtained; false-color or black-and-white images with a dreamlike or sometimes lurid appearance known as the “Wood Effect,” an effect mainly caused by foliage (such as tree leaves and grass) strongly reflecting in the same way visible light is reflected from snow.
The other attributes of infrared photographs include very dark skies and penetration of atmospheric haze, caused by reduced Rayleigh scattering and Mie scattering, respectively, compared to visible light. The dark skies, in turn, result in less infrared light in shadows and dark reflections of those skies from water, and clouds will stand out strongly.
So anyway, here are some of my first attempts:

I plan to permanently convert one of my DSLRs to infrared. That is when the real fun begins!
Landon’s Easter Pictures | Keller Family Photographer
Posted on April 8, 2009
Landon, one of my very first and favorite clients came to see me to get some Spring pictures. His mom initially wanted some indoor studio shots, but once they came over, Landon was having none of standing in my designated area to take pictures.
So, after a short chat, we decided to jump in the car and visit the local park instead. After chasing him around (he ran every time he saw me point the camera), I managed to get a few very endearing pictures of him.
Is this not the most precious face?
In this one he was concentrating very hard on avoiding me. LOL
My gosh, I can’t believe how grown up he is. I started taking his pictures at three months old!
