What to Wear
Clothing choices are dependant on the feeling you want you want to portray in your portrait. Feel free to bring multiple outfits and accessories to get multiple looks, or if you just aren’t sure, I will give you a hand. Below you will find some specific pointers when picking out your attire for your shoot.
Infants
Infants photograph best without absolutely anything at all or very simple onesies or T-shirts. Knitted hats, their own blankets and stuffed animals also add a personal touch. Newborn babies sessions are best under two weeks old since they tend to sleep a lot and naturally curl up their bodies.
Babies & Toddlers
I love, love, love texture and rich colors. Think layers, funky shoes, hats, tutus and oversize hair ribbons. A great place to find tutus is http://www.tutuboutique.com.
Families & Couples
Feel free to dress to reflect your personality. If you are high-fashion, feel free to dress that way. If you enjoy wearing your jeans and cowboy boots, well, wear that! I want you to feel comfortable at your photo shoot. I recommend familes and couples to not necessarily “match,” but instead to coordinate their styles.
Solid, primary colors such as red, blue, green, black and white look vibrant and great.
Tweens/Teens/Seniors
The funkier, the better! Let your child pick their own outfit to wear to the shoot. If they are into striped socks, chucks and a mohawk, then let them wear it! I think it adds to the portrait letting your child show their personality. Typically you want very bold colors and textures for this age.
Miscellaneous
- Ladies, be sure to bring any necessary makeup for touchups.
- Make sure family members have trimmed and no chipped paint on their hands AND feet. I shoot many portraits of family members barefoot!
- Glasses: If possible, I prefer to shoot people without their glasses to avoid distortion from the lenses and reflections. If you simply can’t go without your glasses, we will work around it.
- Haircuts: Avoid getting a haircut right before a photoshoot, especially for men.
